What would you do if you had nothing left to lose? It’s a question that every twenty-something has pondered while waxing philosophical in the most confusing transitional period of their life – be it during the scarce amount of time they get to spend alone at a family reunion, or in the form of existential conversations at 4am with bleary-eyed and well inebriated strangers at parties.
It’s also the question at the center of singer-songwriter Claire Hawkins’ reflective and inward-gazing song “Nothing to Lose.” Written during Hawkins’ time as a songwriter-in-residence in Canet-en-Roussillon, a remote French town that grows even more vacant in the off season, this question was top of mind for Hawkins, a question “at the heart of every artist’s work, no matter the field.”
Today, A Grrrl’s Two Sound Cents is excited to premiere the brand new video for “Nothing to Lose.” Filmed against the backdrop of her hometown skyline, Hawkins joined forces with a team of local creatives in New York – including director and videographer Gannon, music photographer Maddie Barkocy, and dancer and choreographer Emily McManus – to bring to life the song’s visual component, which “channels that stillness and introspection into a visual world that mirrors the song’s emotional weight.”
